The Grand ‘Ole Tour was organized in 1962 in Lubbock, Texas
to give West Texas antique car owners a chance
to participate in an annual tour and car show.
The organizers of the event were clubs in Lubbock,
Midland and San
Angelo.
The first Grand ‘Ole Tour was held in Lubbock,
the second was in Midland and the
third was in San Angelo. In later years the Big
Spring club joined and then the Abilene
club. This is the original five clubs that host the Grand ‘Ole
Tour.
In later years the Lubbock
club withdrew and the Amarillo club
wanted to take their place. Currently,
the Clubs are the Amarillo Region of AACA, West
Texas Region of AACA, Wool Capital Region AACA, Big Spring Region of AACA and
the Abilene Model A Club of America.
However, as of September, 2005, the Amarillo
club and the Abilene club have
withdrawn as host of the Grand ‘Ole Tour, leaving Midland,
Big Spring and San
Angelo as the host.
Until additional clubs join in the rotation as host, the remaining three
club will host the Grand ‘Ole Tour once every three
years.
The annual Grand ‘Ole Tour is open to any automobile 25
years or older. The event consists of a
Thursday night get together. Friday is usually a tour in the automobiles to
various interesting and/or historical sites.
Friday night is style show with participants in period clothing and then
a banquet. Saturday is the Car Show, Car Games with the
award banquet on Saturday night.
The Grand ‘Ole Tour is an occasion to show and drive your
automobile; to visit with old friends and to met new ones. In addition, one gets to enjoy the company of
other old car nuts and to revisit a by-gone era. Come join the GRAND ‘OLE TOUR.
